Every year, my husband and partner-in-crime Murray and I run away together 🙂
We fly across the country for our annual pilgrimage to New York City.
There’s something powerful about this trip — about leaving Los Angeles, where it’s always beautiful, always sunny, always warm, and arriving in New York in the middle of winter where it’s cold and grey and completely different.
It gives us a whole new perspective, a whole new way of thinking, a whole new way of being.
I’m a huge believer in the power of perspective and looking at your business from the outside. I’m a huge believer of letting your mind go fallow, “empty out” and rest.
When you go fallow, you stop planting new seeds and you get to watch as the seeds you’ve already planted start to germinate, sprout and bloom.
Step Away to Move Forward
When you give yourself permission to go fallow… amazing things happen.
In New York, I get to have 2 weeks away from the day-to-day in my business.
When I come back, I’m ready to get back into it with a vengeance and I love that.
I’ve noticed when there’s a problem and I keep pushing and pushing to get to a solution, I come up against a wall. The only way to have a breakthrough is to step away and let everything kind of percolate.
I might take a drive, read a novel or take a relaxing shower.
When I do those things, something clicks in my mind and I get into creative flow again. The solution I was looking for magically appears because I created a little bit of space to let new ideas take shape.
Trust + Surrender
I’ve realized through teaching, coaching and mentoring thousands and thousands of students around the world that when you cling too tightly to an outcome, when you say to yourself, “I want it, I want it, I want it… and I want it yesterday!” you restrict yourself. You put yourself in a corner and you kind of “squeeze” your mind shut.
You don’t create the space to allow the outcome or solution or amazing idea to emerge. You need to relax into the process, trust the process and surrender into the process to access your deeper wisdom and knowing.
So, here’s what I want you to do…
I’d love for you to go ahead and pre-schedule your “pauses” for the rest of 2019.
Create time and space to step away from your business so you can maximize the power of perspective, and open the door for world-changing ideas and brilliant solutions to come through.
When you hit that balance between production and rejuvenation, between working diligently at your computer and stepping away to shift your perspective, you’ll find that the well of creative inspiration is endless and you’ll be able to create, ideate and produce on demand.
So, let me know in the comments…
What can you do today to pause — even for 5 minutes — to open yourself up to creative solutions and million-dollar ideas?
Starting today, I want you to give yourself permission to break out of busy so you can shift your perspective and imagine new possibilities for yourself and for your business.
Here’s to your creativity and innovation in the years and decades to come…
Here’s to endless new ideas, inspiration and productive momentum…
