The Perfect Home Page Video (Part 1): The Credibility Video

I just wrapped a 5-day Personal Branding Workshop with my Mastery students and one of the things we did together was script and film their home page videos.  I gotta say they came out FABULOUS! 🙂

The right video can keep new visitors on your site for minutes longer… long enough to build a relationship and inspire someone to take an action that builds your business. But the wrong video can send them scurrying away as fast as they arrived.

So it’s important to choose your first words wisely.

Video is the future of marketing and 52% of marketing professionals say that video has the best ROI of all content. It’s estimated that video will account for 79% of global internet traffic by the year 2020…

So if there’s one important skillset to learn, it’s video.

I was a documentary film directory in my first career, so I have a huge passion for video and taught my Mastery students 13 different kinds of videos they could use in their video.

They each mixed and matched to come up with a home page video that would quickly position them and their business… then we workshopped the scripts and storyboarded how we wanted to bring each story to life.

I was so impressed by their work that I wanted to share their videos with you and highlight a few important kinds of videos you may want to play with.

The first kind of video is what I call the credibility video. While it starts off with a question that connects with what the visitor wants, it quickly pivots to what the company provides.

These videos build credibility and connection by sharing three or more of the following:
• social proof (i.e. client stories or successes)
• an origin story of why you went into business
• personal or professional accomplishments
• core values or beliefs

Along the way, the video positions the business, products or services so by the time you get to the call to action at the end, it’s super compelling to want to sign up.

Let me give you two examples.

The first is from my student Bret Gregory, founder of Attract Customers Now.

As you watch this notice that we’re using 2 cameras to create more dynamism and intercutting each video with b-roll (or supplemental footage to build visual interest). While this takes a little more production and editing, it produces a higher-quality result.

The second credibility video is from my student Jesse Krieger, founder of Lifestyle Entrepreneurs Press.

Now that you’ve seen the videos, I thought you might want to read the scripts to see exactly what they did and what made these videos so effective.

    I am not a person who can memorize things easily. How to I glance at a script and look more natural at the same time. I had this problem in the 21 day challenge and with any video I do. Thanks for always sharing the details that help look like it’s effortless, when it isn’t!

      Sharon – you can use a teleprompter, whether it’s an over-the-screen one or a cell phone one that you hold next to the camera.

            I came across PromptSmart and tried it out…it keeps pace, starts and stops when you stop.
            As a video-phobe, I have the same issue of memorization and this is one of those things holding me back.

          For a short presentation, just print out your speech with a really BIG font (on multiple sheets of paper), and have a friend stand next to the camera and show you the pages as you speak. A human-powered voice-activated prompter! If you’re using a lav mic, they can just drop the spoken pages on the floor…
